A paradise for your home
Smiling people waving at us - from the side of the road or five people on a motorcycle that is just passing ours. Figures of laughing Buddhas amidst soft pink flowering water lilies surrounded by traditional flags. The memories of the first visit to Bali in 2001 are still very present.
We were fascinated by how much time people spend on ceremonies, how much love for detail there is in decorating the temples, with colorful flowers, exotic fruits and candles as offerings. At each bridge we were greeted by statues of gods that are venerated by the people. Each house has its own methods to ward off evil. The wealth of Hindu rites and the legendary fertility of the island always amaze us.
Since this first shopping trip to the island of the 1000 Gods we have traveled to Southeast Asia many times and have fallen in love with many things: the kindness and spirituality of the people. The abundance of nature with its interplay of mountains, volcanoes, tropical forests and spectacular underwater worlds. The concept of Buddhism and its manifestations throughout Southeast Asia. Indonesia with its more than 17,000 islands is a cosmos of its own, rich in different cultures, unique flora and unusual fauna. Each of my 50 journeys was a voyage of discovery. A departure to new islands, an immersion into the everyday life of the inhabitants, a getting to know and above all a learning to treasure.
Fair - Travel & Trade
At that time Travel & Trade was born. It brings the concept of Asiastyle to the point: Travel. Diving into the life worlds of the local people. To experience beautiful discovery and let you as a customer participate in it. We bring special stonemasonry, garden sculptures and stories of South East Asia to your home.
So everything you find online or in our large show garden with stone figures and in the exhibition rooms in the Old Mill in Lotte are discoveries from our travels. For your garden, your own house or apartment. Individual pieces play as important a role for us as their authenticity, quality and sustainability.
Our Expertise: (Buddha-)figure and its meaning
My affinity for shapes of faces and heads has developed during my studies. The feel of natural materials like stone, the centuries-old knowledge of craftsmanship has always fascinated me. The knowledge about the meaning of individual Buddha forms and other gods I acquired in self-study. The classical figure representations vary in the Southeast Asian cultural area. My research trips led me from Borobudur (the world's largest Buddhist temple complex on Java) to the Cambodian temple complex Angkor Wat; the Thai cultural heritage Ayutthaya to South India. I am familiar with the currents from Thailand, Laos, India Indonesia and Vietnam as well as the representations from Cambodia.
Unique pieces from local manufactories & sustainable corporate policy
If Bali is considered by importers to be THE "showcase" for diverse arts from all over Indonesia, I was less interested in the exhibition than in the real production sites. These in turn are distributed throughout the entire island state, depending on the expertise of the stonemasons and the site-specific resources.
So after only two years I opened a branch office in a small town near Surabaya. Exactly where the stonemasonry artists with whom I wanted to work are also at home. And exactly where the spiritual power of the former capital of the Hindu kingdom and its rich culture can still be felt today. Together with our local partners, we have developed a sustainable transport logistics system that bundles resources and serves as a model for the region. We hope that this will also be the case with the fair-price policy we pursue. Contrary to the common practice of other exporters who trade goods from Bali without corresponding local added value for the stonemasons.
The close relationship with the artists and small manufactories makes it possible to implement new ideas quickly and directly. Our local team comes from the region and is the link to skilfully cast and implement the customer's wishes, i.e. your individual requirements. We fall back on different materials.
Unique pieces are created, from the idea to the finished object. The sculpture is an expression of the spirit of the times or of an entire region. And therefore nowhere else to be found. Just as unique as your garden and your ideas about it.
Source of inspiration for our work is the rich cultural treasure of Southeast Asia, the different forms of Buddhism, regionally influenced. We work with many small businesses in different regions of Indonesia to buy the goods directly from the producers, if possible. I am in constant exchange with about 10 manufactories from 6 different regions of Indonesia. Each region offers different goods, depending on available materials and skills. So our granite-like river stone comes from a completely different region than the bamboo, the greenish basanite, teak or the coconut palm. What unites them: The demand for quality.
From the first container to transport expertise and worldwide shipping
When our first shipping container left Bali for Europe in 2001, it contained mainly individual items for personal use, such as sculptures and furniture. Seasonal trade at fairs and garden events followed. The positive response made us grow quickly.
Almost 20 years later: We shipped about 500 containers to our customers on all 5 continents. Many of our long-standing customers and partners got to know us at trade fairs and have come to appreciate our wide range of products in the field of garden design.
As transport experts, we ensure that your desired object is delivered safely to your home. And we do so sustainably. We collect our packaging material and recycle it, use wood wool instead of polystyrene chips - this not only looks nicer, but also makes lasting sense. We call this Re-Think & Re-Use! because we are convinced that by taking many small steps we help to conserve our common resources.
